Introduction of Foscarnet Sodium
Foscarnet
sodium prevents reproduction of viruses. Foscarnet sodium is
used for herpes viruses that do not respond to other treatment
and viral eye infection (CMV retinitis).
Precautions before taking
Foscarnet Sodium
Your doctor will check your kidney
function before you get this drug and frequently during
treatment.
Foscarnet sodium may decrease
blood minerals. Tell your nurse or doctor if you notice
tingling around your mouth, numbness, or a sensation of pins
and needles.
Tell your
doctor if you are also receiving pentamidine, amphotericin B,
aminoglycoside antibiotics, or hypocalcemic agents, as you
should not receive foscarnet sodium.
